Is Four Seasons Puerto Rico worth it?
I think Four Seasons Puerto Rico is particularly compelling if you want a true resort vacation without making the journey complicated. You get two miles of beach, a huge nature reserve, golf, a kids' club, water sports and easy access to El Yunque, yet you are only about 30 minutes from San Juan International Airport.
It is the sort of place that works equally well for a long weekend when you desperately need sun and a full week when you actually want to explore.
Is Four Seasons Puerto Rico a new hotel?
Sort of. Four Seasons Resort and Residences Puerto Rico opened on November 20, 2025, but the property itself previously operated as The St. Regis Bahía Beach Resort. Four Seasons took over the resort and reimagined the 139 guest rooms and suites, public spaces and pools before reopening it under the Four Seasons flag.
So this is not a brand-new resort built from the ground up. It is an established Bahía Beach property with a very new Four Seasons chapter.
Where is Four Seasons Puerto Rico?
Four Seasons Puerto Rico is in Río Grande on Puerto Rico's northeastern coast, inside the gated Bahía Beach community. It sits within a 483-acre nature reserve between Río Grande and Luquillo, close to both the beach and El Yunque National Forest.
This is very much a nature-and-beach resort rather than a San Juan city hotel.
How far is Four Seasons Puerto Rico from San Juan Airport?
The resort is approximately 21 miles from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, with a typical drive of about 30 minutes.
This is one of its biggest advantages, particularly for East Coast travelers. You can take a nonstop flight, land in Puerto Rico and be at a proper Caribbean resort remarkably quickly.
Do U.S. citizens need a passport to visit Four Seasons Puerto Rico?
No. U.S. citizens do not need a passport to travel to Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico also uses the U.S. dollar, and major U.S. cellular carriers operate on the island.
It may not be the sexiest hotel amenity, but not dealing with immigration, currency exchange or an international phone plan has its charms.
Is Four Seasons Puerto Rico good for families?
Very. This is one of the reasons I think the resort will become particularly popular for luxury family trips.
Kids For All Seasons is complimentary for children ages 4 to 12, and the resort also has a family pool, children's menus, babysitting, a petting zoo, nature activities and the Boathouse, where families can kayak, paddleboard, fish and use an inflatable water park.
It is family-friendly without requiring you to spend your vacation staring at a waterslide from your breakfast table.
Does Four Seasons Puerto Rico have a good beach?
Yes, although I would describe the overall setting as the real star.
The resort sits along approximately two miles of golden beach within the Bahía Beach nature reserve. The shoreline is long, uncrowded and surrounded by an enormous amount of greenery rather than neighboring towers and development.
Ocean conditions can naturally change with weather and season, so I would not promise bathtub-calm Caribbean water every day. But if you care about having a long, beautiful beach with room to walk and very little visual clutter, the setting is excellent.
How close is Four Seasons Puerto Rico to El Yunque?
Very close. El Yunque National Forest is about nine miles from the resort, making Four Seasons Puerto Rico one of the most convenient luxury hotels for combining a beach vacation with time in the rainforest.
You can hike, visit waterfalls, zipline or arrange a guided rainforest experience and still return to the resort for the afternoon.
That is far preferable to turning El Yunque into a military operation involving a 6:00 AM departure.
Four Seasons Puerto Rico or Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve: which is better?
These are probably the two Puerto Rico resorts I would compare most closely at the ultra-luxury level, but they suit slightly different trips.
I would lean toward Four Seasons Puerto Rico if you want proximity to El Yunque, lots of nature-based activities, a very strong family setup and the familiarity of Four Seasons service. The resort has a complimentary kids' club for ages 4 to 12, a 483-acre nature reserve and an 18-hole Robert Trent Jones Jr. golf course.
Dorado Beach has a more established ultra-luxury identity and an especially strong wellness and golf offering, including the five-acre Spa Botánico and two golf courses.
For a family that wants to explore Puerto Rico, I might favor Four Seasons. For a couple primarily interested in privacy, spa and a very polished resort bubble, Dorado Beach can still be incredibly compelling.
What are the best rooms at Four Seasons Puerto Rico?
The standard rooms are unusually spacious. Oceanfront Rooms are approximately 741 square feet and are available with either one king or two queen beds, which makes the resort particularly easy for families who do not immediately need to jump to a suite.
There are also suites, villas and multi-bedroom residences for larger families and multigenerational trips.
I would not automatically choose the highest room category. I would look at whether you care most about being oceanfront, having a balcony or terrace, getting two queen beds, or having true residential space and a kitchen.
Is Four Seasons Puerto Rico good for a multigenerational family trip?
Yes, and possibly even better than it is for a simple family-of-four vacation.
The resort offers guest rooms, suites and residences, including large multi-bedroom options. Add the kids' club, family and adults-only pool areas, golf, spa, beach, tennis, pickleball and nature activities, and people can spend the day doing completely different things without requiring three rental cars and a family group chat titled “WHERE IS EVERYONE?”
Is Four Seasons Puerto Rico good for golfers?
Yes. Bahía Beach Golf Club has an 18-hole, par-72 Robert Trent Jones Jr. course stretching 6,890 yards through the resort's nature reserve, with ocean, rainforest and lake views. There is also a driving range, putting green, TrackMan simulator, equipment rental and private instruction.
It is a legitimately good golf resort, not simply a beach resort that happens to have eighteen holes nearby.
Do you need a rental car at Four Seasons Puerto Rico?
Not necessarily.
If you are staying for a long weekend and mainly want the beach, pool, golf and resort activities, I would skip it and arrange airport transfers. Four Seasons can also organize transportation and private excursions.
If you want to spend several days exploring Old San Juan, local restaurants and other parts of Puerto Rico, having a car can make sense. For many of my clients, though, I would rather arrange specific transfers and touring than have a rental car sitting in the resort parking lot for five days.
Is Four Seasons Puerto Rico good for a honeymoon?
Yes, particularly for couples who want more to do than sit on the beach.
There is an adults-only pool area, spa, golf, private boat charters, rainforest excursions and plenty of space within the reserve to make the property feel romantic even though it also works extremely well for families.
For a honeymoon that is entirely about seclusion and doing almost nothing, I might compare it with a few smaller Caribbean resorts. For couples who want beach, food, spa and actual adventures, it makes a lot of sense.
