The Best Ritz-Carlton Resorts for People Who Love a Really Good Resort
The infinity pool at The Ritz-Carlton Reserve, Nekajui
For a long time, I loved a boutique hotel. Give me the tiny lobby. The hand-thrown ceramics. The charming breakfast room. The front desk person who somehow also makes the best espresso in town. I loved the idea of a small, stylish hotel with a sense of place and just enough inconvenience to make me feel interesting.
And then I took my son to The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman when he was two and a half.
That was the moment I learned something important about myself.
I love a five-star resort.
Not a hotel. A resort.
There is a difference.
A great resort is its own little world. It has space to breathe, pools to choose from, restaurants you actually want to eat at, a spa you can disappear into, staff who remember your child's name, and enough to do that you can have a full vacation without ever getting into a car.
This is especially useful when traveling with children, grandparents, friends with different vacation speeds, or anyone who says, “I'm easy,” and then turns out to have very strong opinions about breakfast timing.
This is where Ritz-Carlton resorts shine.
The service is polished but not stiff. The properties are usually expansive and beautifully maintained. The food is reliably good, sometimes excellent. And when a Ritz-Carlton resort is operating at its best, there is an ease to the whole experience that makes you wonder why you ever thought “charming but no elevator” was a personality trait.
If you found this page because you fell in love with a Ritz and are now looking for the next one to book, welcome.
You are among friends.
Here are the Ritz-Carlton resorts and Ritz-Carlton Reserve properties I love most right now, including the ones I know personally, confidently send clients to, or have high on my own list because they are exactly the kind of place my clients ask me to find.
First, a quick note before you book a Ritz-Carlton directly
I am a Marriott STARS travel advisor, which means I can book Ritz-Carlton and select luxury Marriott properties with preferred partner benefits.
If you are booking a Ritz-Carlton with cash, not points, and you book directly online, you may be leaving value on the table. (If points are more your move, I keep a running guide to the best luxury Marriott Bonvoy redemptions too.)
Marriott STARS bookings typically include:
Daily breakfast for two
A hotel or resort credit, often $100 per stay
Upgrade priority, subject to availability
Early check-in and late check-out, subject to availability
VIP recognition
Personalized notes and special requests communicated directly to the hotel
The best part is that these bookings are made through Marriott's preferred advisor channel, so you can still earn Marriott Bonvoy points and elite night credits when eligible.
It is usually the same rate you see online, but with better benefits and a real human involved. A concept I remain passionate about.
Amex Platinum will not personally call the hotel before you arrive and ask them to prioritize your upgrade. It will not flag that you have a shellfish allergy, need an extra fridge for your baby's milk, are celebrating your anniversary, or have a child who will become a small, dramatic Victorian orphan if the room is not ready after an overnight flight.
I will.
I work closely with many of these properties, and several of them know my clients well by now. When I send someone to one of these resorts, I am not just hoping they will be well taken care of. I am actively making sure they are.
Nekajui, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, Costa Rica
One of my favorite pools in Costa Rica, at the Ritz-Carlton Reserve, Nekajui
My top Ritz right now is Nekajui, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Peninsula Papagayo, Costa Rica.
Yes, the service is still finding its rhythm in places, which is completely normal for a new resort of this scale. But the property itself is extraordinary. Peaceful, dramatic, and set in one of the most beautiful corners of Costa Rica.
Nekajui is set within Costa Rica's Peninsula Papagayo, a 1,400-acre private coastal destination surrounded by forest, beaches, biodiversity, and Pacific views. It is also the first Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Central America, which gives it a certain “book it before everyone starts casually mentioning it at dinner” quality.
This is not the kind of resort that feels like it could be anywhere. It feels rooted in the landscape. You have ocean views, lush greenery, beautiful design, excellent food, and that rare combination of adventure and exhale.
It is polished, but not precious. Luxurious, but not overly formal. Exactly the kind of place where you can hike, swim, eat beautifully, have a spa treatment, and then stare at the Pacific like you are in a fragrance campaign.
If you love a Ritz and you have not been to Nekajui yet, this should be high on your list.
I stayed and wrote the full Nekajui review, plus a deeper property spotlight and an honest comparison with the Four Seasons next door, if you want the long version.
Best for: couples, families with older children, wellness trips, Costa Rica lovers, and anyone who wants nature without sacrificing comfort.
Why I love it: Nekajui gives you that secluded, special-occasion feeling while still being manageable from the U.S., especially compared with more far-flung tropical resorts.
My advisor take: This is a smart choice for travelers who want Costa Rica to feel adventurous, but not rustic. You can have wildlife, rainforest, ocean views, beautiful design, and excellent service without pretending you are the kind of person who enjoys roughing it.
Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, Puerto Rico
Spa Botánico at the Ritz-Carlton Reserve, Dorado Beach
Dorado Beach is one of the great easy-luxury escapes from the East Coast.
It is simple to get to from much of the U.S., especially the Northeast, Southeast, and Florida, but once you arrive, it feels like another world. The landscaping, the low-slung architecture, the beach, the golf carts, the palm trees, the whole thing has that “how is this only a few hours from home?” magic.
If you want a beachfront room, the suites on West Beach are very hard to beat.
You are right there.
Not “ocean view if you stand on the balcony and lean left.” Actual beachfront. The kind of beachfront where you wake up, open the doors, and immediately begin justifying the room rate to yourself.
Dorado also has one of my favorite resort spas, Spa Botánico, which feels charming and atmospheric with its hacienda style. There is a kids' water park that is actually fun and cool-looking, not sad municipal splash pad energy. There is an excellent gym, beautiful sports facilities, golf, biking, beach time, and genuinely excellent restaurants.
It works for families, couples, celebrations, spring break, long weekends, and anyone who wants a luxury Caribbean-feeling resort without needing a passport.
Best for: families, couples, multi-generational trips, long weekends, spring break, and anyone who wants a true luxury resort close to home.
Why I love it: It feels private and transportive but is so easy to reach. Also, a beautiful spa and a genuinely good kids' water park are not things I take lightly.
My advisor take: This is one of the best “I need a real vacation but I cannot emotionally handle complicated logistics” resorts. It is easy, beautiful, and feels special immediately.
The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman
Sunset at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman
The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman is a classic for a reason.
It sits on Seven Mile Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean, and the service is exactly what people hope for when they book a Ritz. Warm, professional, organized, and deeply reassuring when traveling with children.
This was the resort that converted me.
I arrived thinking I was still a small-hotel person. I left thinking, “Actually, what I need is a gorgeous beach, excellent breakfast, a kids' club, great service, and someone who can bring me coffee before I become a liability.”
Grand Cayman is a wonderful fit for families because it is clean, easy, beautiful, and low-drama. The Ritz gives you the full resort experience: beach, pools, restaurants, tennis, spa, children's programming, and a general sense that someone has thought through the details before you even ask.
Also, the breakfast is one of my favorites.
And I have opinions about hotel breakfast that could fill a small legal pad.
I wrote more about why this is my favorite family beach trip, including how it compares with the Kimpton Seafire down the beach.
Best for: families, beach lovers, first-time luxury Caribbean travelers, and anyone who wants a classic five-star resort that just works.
Why I love it: The service is the gold standard in the Caribbean, and the beach is beautiful.
My advisor take: This is the Ritz I recommend when someone wants a luxury family beach vacation with very little friction. It is not trying too hard. It does not need to. It knows exactly what it is doing.
The Ritz-Carlton Oʻahu, Turtle Bay
One of my all-time favorite open-air lobbies, at The Ritz-Carlton, Turtle Bay
The Ritz-Carlton Oʻahu, Turtle Bay is my favorite resort on Oʻahu.
It sits on the North Shore, which already gives it a completely different feeling from Waikiki. More open. More natural. More “surf break and sunset” than “elevator bank and shopping bag.” The setting is spectacular.
The pools overlook a beautiful surf break, and there are waterslides, which means my son can remain happily occupied for hours while I pretend I am “supervising” from a lounge chair. On the other side of the hotel, there is a calm, protected beach, which is ideal for families and anyone who wants ocean time without needing to negotiate with waves like they are opposing counsel.
This property only recently became a Ritz-Carlton, but one of the best things is that it kept much of its original spirit. It still feels like Turtle Bay. The Ritz branding has added polish, but the resort has not lost what made it special.
Also, yes, this is where Forgetting Sarah Marshall was filmed.
And no, I will not be taking further questions on whether that influences my affection for the property.
It does. Obviously.
Best for: families, surfers, active travelers, Hawaii lovers, and anyone who wants Oʻahu without staying in Honolulu.
Why I love it: It has natural beauty, great family amenities, a real sense of place, and the rare ability to feel both luxurious and relaxed.
My advisor take: This is the Oʻahu resort for people who want Hawaii to feel like Hawaii. You can still visit Pearl Harbor, Honolulu, or Waikiki if you want, but you come home to the North Shore. That is the move.
Siari, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, Riviera Nayarit
Siari, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Riviera Nayarit, Mexico, is the one on this list I have not personally stayed at yet, but I am already placing clients there and watching it closely. (It is also one of the most interesting new points redemptions in the portfolio right now.)
And I am dying to go.
This is a true Ritz-Carlton Reserve, which means the scale and setting are part of the point. Siari is set in Riviera Nayarit, between the Sierra Madre mountains and the Pacific Ocean, with beach, jungle, mangroves, wellness, pools, and that very Reserve-style promise of privacy and place.
This is not the resort I would choose for someone who wants to pop into town every night for tacos and shopping.
This is for someone who wants to arrive, exhale, and disappear into a beautifully designed natural world with excellent service, strong food, and a sense of being somewhere special.
It is also a very interesting option for travelers who love Mexico but want something quieter and less expected than Cabo or Punta Mita.
Because it is new, I would frame it thoughtfully. New luxury resorts can be extraordinary, but they can also still be tightening service, timing, and flow. That said, for the right client, especially someone who loves a Reserve-style property and wants privacy, nature, and beautiful design, Siari is absolutely one to watch.
Best for: couples, families who like quieter luxury, design lovers, Mexico repeat visitors, and travelers who want something new and special.
Why I'm watching it: It looks like the kind of resort that gives you the full Reserve experience. Remote, natural, refined, and rooted in place.
My advisor take: I would put Siari on the list for people who have already done Cabo, Punta Mita, and maybe even Costa Rica, and now want the next beautiful, tucked-away Mexico resort while it is still the quieter answer.
Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, Ubud, Bali
Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Ubud, Bali, absolutely belongs on this list.
It is not a beach resort, which is part of what makes it so special. Mandapa is the Ritz-Carlton Reserve for people who want jungle, rice paddies, river views, wellness, culture, and the kind of deep exhale that makes you briefly consider becoming someone who meditates daily.
Set in Bali's cultural heart of Ubud, Mandapa is suites and private pool villas, a spa, several restaurants, wellness experiences, and a setting that leans fully into nature and Balinese ritual. There is 24-hour room service and a children's program, but this is not really a resort you choose off an amenities checklist. You choose it for the place.
This is the Ritz you choose when you want Bali to feel spiritual, beautiful, and a little bit cinematic, but still very comfortable. You can do yoga, spa, cultural experiences, temple visits, rafting, rice field walks, and then return to the kind of room that makes you question every design decision in your own house.
Best for: honeymoons, wellness trips, couples, Bali lovers, and travelers who want culture and nature with serious comfort.
Why I love it: It gives you the magic of Ubud with Ritz-Carlton Reserve service, which is a very compelling combination if your vacation personality is “I want to feel transformed, but I also want excellent linens.”
My advisor take: Mandapa is perfect as part of a Bali itinerary with Ubud first, then beach after. Start here for culture, wellness, jungle, and rice paddies, then finish somewhere coastal when you are ready to stare at the ocean and order lunch in a swimsuit.
Zadún, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, Los Cabos
Zadún, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Los Cabos, is for people who want Cabo, but quieter, more soulful, and more design-forward.
This is not the loud, beach-club version of Cabo. Zadún is set along the Sea of Cortés, with desert-meets-ocean views, beautiful villas and suites, outdoor living spaces, a serious spa, excellent dining, golf access, and the more personal service style that makes Ritz-Carlton Reserve properties feel different from a standard luxury resort.
It is romantic without being sleepy. Polished without feeling corporate. And it has that indoor-outdoor Cabo beauty that makes you want to spend most of the day wrapped in linen, drinking something cold, and pretending you are the kind of person who journals on vacation.
The beaches in this part of Cabo are often more for looking at than swimming, which is important to know. But if you are happy with beautiful pools, dramatic views, spa time, excellent food, and a quiet, refined atmosphere, Zadún is a very strong choice.
Best for: couples, spa trips, milestone birthdays, honeymoons, babymoons, and travelers who love Cabo but want something calmer and more refined.
Why I love it: It gives you the beauty of Cabo with more intimacy and a stronger sense of retreat.
My advisor take: Zadún is perfect when someone says they want Cabo, but not “Cabo Cabo.” You know exactly what I mean.
The Ritz-Carlton, Turks & Caicos
The Ritz-Carlton, Turks & Caicos is the Grace Bay Ritz, which already gives it a major advantage.
Grace Bay is one of those beaches that almost looks fake in photos, except then you arrive and realize it really is that blue. Calm, clear, soft, and ridiculously easy to love.
This resort is a great option for travelers who want a polished luxury beach stay in Turks & Caicos with the reliability of Ritz-Carlton service. It has a spa, multiple dining options, pools, beach service, and access to Lady Grace, the resort's own luxury sailing catamaran, which is exactly the kind of thing that makes a beach vacation feel instantly more glamorous.
It is not the most remote or barefoot of the Turks & Caicos luxury resorts, so I would choose it for someone who wants Grace Bay, strong service, a classic resort setup, and the comfort of a brand they already know and trust.
Best for: couples, families, long weekends, beach lovers, first-time Turks & Caicos travelers, and anyone who wants Grace Bay with Ritz polish.
Why I love it: It gives you one of the Caribbean's most beautiful beaches with a resort that feels easy, polished, and familiar in the best way.
My advisor take: This is a great fit for the client who wants Turks & Caicos to be beautiful, uncomplicated, and comfortable. Not every trip needs to be wildly original. Sometimes you want turquoise water, good service, and a room that does not require decoding.
The Ritz-Carlton, Naples
The Ritz-Carlton, Naples is a classic Florida luxury resort, and sometimes classic is exactly what you need.
It is not new, but it feels newly polished after a major renovation and expansion. The resort reopened in July 2023 after a renovation that began in 2021, including the addition of the Vanderbilt Tower, a new Ritz-Carlton Club Lounge, more than 70 Club Level guestrooms, a refreshed lobby, and new dining experiences.
This is not the place you book to prove you found something before anyone else. You book it because you want a polished Gulf Coast beach resort with strong service, an easy domestic flight, beautiful sunsets, good food, a real resort feel, and a vacation that does not require a passport, customs line, or emotional negotiations with connecting flights.
For families, grandparents, couples, and multi-generational trips, Naples can make a lot of sense. It is warm, easy, comfortable, and elegant in that Florida way that says, “Yes, we have a pool chair and a proper lunch menu, and no, you do not need to overthink this.”
The Ritz-Carlton, Naples is especially useful when you want luxury but also simplicity. Beach, pool, spa, dining, golf nearby, and a town that is easy to navigate.
Best for: families, grandparents, winter sun, spring break, long weekends, and easy domestic luxury.
Why I love it: It is polished, practical, and genuinely relaxing. Sometimes the best luxury is not having to make seventeen complicated decisions before breakfast.
My advisor take: Ritz Naples is for the traveler who wants sun, service, comfort, and ease. It may not be the newest shiny object, but there is a reason people return.
How to choose the right Ritz-Carlton resort
Here is how I would think about it.
For the best classic Caribbean beach resort: The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman
For the easiest luxury island escape from the East Coast: Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve
For Costa Rica luxury and nature: Nekajui, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve
For Hawaii with kids: The Ritz-Carlton Oʻahu, Turtle Bay
For a new, secluded Mexico resort: Siari, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve
For Bali, wellness, and culture: Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve
For Los Cabos luxury: Zadún, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve
For Grace Bay and classic Turks & Caicos: The Ritz-Carlton, Turks & Caicos
For an easy domestic beach escape: The Ritz-Carlton, Naples
Why book a Ritz-Carlton with a Marriott STARS advisor?
Because if you are paying for a luxury resort, you should get the full experience.
When you book through me as a Marriott STARS advisor, I can help make sure your reservation is properly flagged, your preferences are communicated, your celebration is noted, and your benefits are added where eligible.
That matters.
Luxury travel is not just about the room category. It is about the arrival. The welcome. The breakfast. The upgrade request. The note to the general manager. The fact that someone knows you are traveling with a toddler who naps, a husband who needs strong coffee, or a client who will notice if the room faces a service road.
Details matter. At a Ritz-Carlton resort, they can make the difference between a nice vacation and the kind of vacation you start trying to repeat before you have even checked out.
Ready to book your next Ritz-Carlton resort?
If you know you want a Ritz-Carlton or Ritz-Carlton Reserve and plan to book with cash instead of points, I would love to help. You can start planning here.
I can book eligible properties with Marriott STARS benefits, including breakfast for two, resort credits, upgrade priority, and VIP recognition, all while helping you choose the right resort for your family, your budget, and your vacation personality.
Because not every Ritz is the right Ritz for every trip.
But when you find the right one?
You get it.
And suddenly the boutique hotel with the tiny staircase and no pool starts to feel a little less charming.

Is Nekajui, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve worth it?
For the right traveler, yes. Nekajui is a gorgeous new Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Costa Rica's Peninsula Papagayo. It is best for travelers who want nature, ocean views, wellness, beautiful design, and a more secluded luxury experience. Since it is newer, I would set expectations that the service may still be settling in, but the property itself is very special.
Is Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve good for kids?
Yes, Dorado Beach is one of my favorite luxury resorts for families. It has beachfront accommodations, pools, a kids' water park, biking, golf, sports facilities, a gorgeous spa for adults, and excellent food. Is it better to book Ritz-Carlton with points or through Marriott STARS?
It depends. If you have a strong points redemption, using Marriott Bonvoy points can be a great value, and I keep a guide to the best luxury Marriott Bonvoy redemptions for exactly that. If you are paying cash, booking through a Marriott STARS advisor is often the better move because you may receive added benefits for the same publicly available rate. I usually recommend comparing both options before deciding.
Why use a travel advisor for Ritz-Carlton instead of booking online?
A good travel advisor helps you choose the right property, room category, timing, and overall fit. For Ritz-Carlton bookings, a Marriott STARS advisor can also add preferred benefits when eligible and communicate your preferences directly to the hotel. That can make a meaningful difference, especially for celebrations, family trips, allergy needs, early arrivals, room placement, and upgrade requests.
Which Ritz-Carlton resort should I choose for a honeymoon?
For a honeymoon, I would look at Nekajui in Costa Rica, Mandapa in Bali, Zadún in Los Cabos, Siari in Riviera Nayarit, Dorado Beach in Puerto Rico, or The Ritz-Carlton, Turks & Caicos. The right choice depends on whether you want adventure, beach, wellness, privacy, culture, or an easier flight.
Which Ritz-Carlton resort should I choose for spring break?
