Seven Mile Beach at Sunset

If you’re choosing between the Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman and the Kimpton Seafire, here’s the truth: they sit on the same gorgeous stretch of Seven Mile Beach, they’re both “luxury,” and they deliver completely different vacations.

One is polished, seamless, classic, and quietly perfect. The other is modern, social, stylish, and slightly more fun, in a “yes, we should get another margarita” sort of way.

I’ve stayed at both. Here’s exactly how to decide.

The 2026 Verdict

Two excellent resorts. Two very different versions of Grand Cayman.

Kimpton Seafire

Choose this if you want a resort that feels modern, stylish, and a little more relaxed.

The vibe

Fresh, social, colorful, and design-forward without feeling precious.

Best for

Families who want an easy beach resort with a more casual rhythm, good food, and a lighter, less traditional luxury feel.

Why clients like it

The whole resort feels approachable and fun. It is polished, but not buttoned-up. You can have a real vacation here without feeling like everyone is silently judging the number of goggles your child has brought to the pool.

Where it shines

Contemporary rooms, a lively energy, good beach days, and an easier price point compared with the Ritz.

Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman

Choose this if you want the more classic Grand Cayman resort experience.

The vibe

Polished, established, service-forward, and deeply comfortable.

Best for

Families who want a resort with stronger programming, more dining options, and that traditional luxury hotel feeling where things simply work.

Why clients like it

It feels like the safer bet for a higher-touch trip, especially if you care about service, kids’ programming, dining, and a resort that can carry the whole vacation.

Where it shines

The Ambassadors of the Environment program, Starfish Cay, dining, service, and the overall ease of being at a true grand resort.

Before you book

Booking either resort through me costs you nothing extra.

You pay the hotel’s own rate. On top of it: daily breakfast for two, a resort credit, and a room upgrade when one is available. No planning fee. I arrange the booking, confirm the perks, and handle anything that comes up before you go.

Kimpton Seafire: Stylish, Modern, and Social

The view and fresh design of a 1 bedroom suite at the Kimpton Seafire Resort

The Kimpton is colorful, energetic, and unapologetically cool. The lobby has a pulse, the pool scene is social, and Coccoloba (the beachfront taco-and-margarita bar) is easily one of the best casual spots on Seven Mile Beach.

The rooms are spacious and fresh, with a design that reads modern rather than stuffy. Worth knowing: nearly every room here looks out at the ocean or the pool, and the ocean-view rooms tend to run a little larger than their counterparts at the Ritz. The resort opened in 2016 as Kimpton’s first property in the Caribbean, and it still feels like the most design-forward address on the beach.

Practically, the Seafire sits at the quieter north end of Seven Mile Beach, about a mile and a half up from the Ritz. If you’re traveling with older kids, a group of friends, or you simply want a scene that feels lively rather than hushed, this is your spot. And for the littlest travelers, the enclosed Splash at Seafire waterpark is the best on the island.

The food at the Seafire is good. The food at the Ritz-Carlton is exceptional, and when you’re on vacation with kids (or just your own tired self), that distinction matters.

At the Ritz, service isn’t reactive; it’s anticipatory. Cappuccinos appear before you ask, the fruit is perfectly ripe, and pancakes land in front of your child the moment a hunger meltdown threatens.

You sit looking at water so turquoise it feels computer-generated and realize that, for the first time in months, you are actually relaxing. The beach here is flawless: powdery sand raked daily, water that stays calm and clear, and service so seamless you often don’t notice you needed something until it’s already handled. The resort is the larger and more spread-out of the two, 144 acres of it, with a beachfront tower and a quieter garden side.

And in 2026, the Ritz has another advantage: the newly reimagined spa. If wellness is part of the draw, this matters. It’s the reason you come home looking like you slept eight hours a night and definitely did not eat fries poolside for lunch.

Ambassadors of the Environment: Not Your Average Kids Club

Let’s be clear: this is not babysitting. Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ambassadors of the Environment is run by naturalists with PhDs who are as kind as they are knowledgeable. It’s an à la carte program of mangrove kayaking, snorkeling, and sand-dune ecology, and you might drop your child off expecting simple crafts and pick them up midway through a passionate lecture on coral ecosystems. Book early if you’re visiting during peak holiday weeks; the sessions fill up fast.

Dining on Seven Mile Beach

A table in the sand at Tillie’s is always a good idea

The Seafire has Coccoloba, which is perfect for sunset margaritas. But at the Ritz, you don’t just enjoy the meals; you remember them.

Taikun (Ritz-Carlton). Possibly the best sushi I’ve ever had. They grate fresh wasabi at the table, which sets the tone for the whole meal.

Andiamo (Ritz-Carlton). Open-air Italian by the canal, relaxed and family-friendly. Come at 5 p.m. and the staff will help your kids feed the enormous tarpon at the dock.

Saint June (Ritz-Carlton). The newer bar and restaurant: chic, breezy, and serving very good cocktails right near the sand.

Tillie’s (Palm Heights). A short stroll away and a non-negotiable stop: long, chic lunches where you can sip rosé while the kids play in the sand a few feet away.

I’ve stayed at both, and I book them all the time.

If you already know which resort is yours, I can hold the right room before the holiday weeks fill up. If you’re still weighing it, that’s exactly what I help with.

What About Palm Heights or the Westin?

Two other names will come up while you research. Palm Heights is the island’s design darling, lower-key and fashion-forward, and home to Tillie’s. It’s wonderful for couples and stylish families who don’t need a full kids’ program. The Westin sits in the central stretch with a big, easy beach and reliable family amenities at a gentler price point. Both are worth knowing about, but for the white-glove versus cool-and-social decision most travelers are actually making, it comes down to these two.

The Verdict: Which Resort is For You?

Choose the Kimpton Seafire if you want modern design, a lively atmosphere, and social energy. It’s ideal for couples, groups of friends, or families with teens who appreciate a scene.

Choose the Ritz-Carlton if you want a seamless, white-glove experience where every logistical detail is handled for you. If you prioritize legendary service, a flawless beach, and the best kids’ programming in the Caribbean, this is it.

Both resorts sit on the same incredible stretch of Seven Mile Beach. The difference is in the details, and in Grand Cayman, those details make all the difference.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Ritz-Carlton or Kimpton Seafire better for families?

Both are excellent, but they suit different ages. The Ritz-Carlton has the deeper family program: the naturalist-led Ambassadors of the Environment is ideal for school-aged kids, while the Kimpton’s enclosed Splash waterpark is the better fit for toddlers. Families who want everything handled tend to land at the Ritz; families with teens often prefer the Kimpton’s livelier feel.

Which resort has the better beach?

They share the same Seven Mile Beach, so the water and sand are similar. The Ritz sits on a prime central section and keeps its beach meticulously raked; the Kimpton is about a mile and a half north, where the stretch feels a touch quieter.

Can I use points at either resort?

Yes, but not the same program. The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman is a Marriott property, so it books with Marriott Bonvoy points. The Kimpton Seafire is an IHG hotel and books with IHG One Rewards. Whether points or cash is the better value depends on the season and your rate, which is worth running the math on before you book.

Which has better dining?

The Kimpton’s Coccoloba is the best casual, sunset-margarita spot on the beach. The Ritz has the stronger overall lineup: Taikun for sushi, Andiamo for family Italian, and Saint June for cocktails, plus Tillie’s at neighboring Palm Heights within easy reach.

When should I book?

For peak holiday weeks and school breaks, as early as you can, since the best rooms and the Ambassadors sessions sell out months ahead. Shoulder season, in late spring and early fall, brings better availability and value.

Plan your Cayman trip

Tell me how your family travels, and I’ll match you to the one that actually fits.

I book both resorts constantly, I know which rooms are worth requesting, and I handle the details that make a trip easy, from connecting rooms to the dinner reservations that are hard to get on your own. Same rate as the hotel, with the perks on top.
