Hotel La Palma · Italy

Hotel La Palma is the Capri hotel I would choose when the point of going to Capri is actually being in Capri.
The hotel sits steps from the Piazzetta and Via Camerelle, with 50 rooms and suites, a pool hidden above the boutiques, a spa and a completely refreshed 2026 restaurant and nightlife scene from Casa Tua. It is also the island’s oldest hotel, built in 1822 as the Locanda Pagano and restored under Oetker with interiors by Francis Sultana, his first hotel project.
You can walk out for shopping, lunch or drinks and be back at the hotel in minutes. That sounds obvious until you remember how surprisingly complicated getting around a tiny island can become. This is not primarily a sea-view hotel, although every room has a terrace or balcony. You are paying for location, design and the ability to participate in Capri whenever you feel like it.
The 2026 version of La Palma is different
A surprising amount of what is still ranking online describes the old hotel setup. Casa Tua now runs La Palma’s dining and nightlife across four venues: Casa Tua Restaurant, Fuoco on the rooftop, The Club and Mare by Casa Tua at Marina Piccola.
This is Casa Tua’s first location in Italy, opened for the Miami brand’s 25th anniversary, and it is their largest project to date. If you are reading an older review telling you to book Gennaro’s, Da Gioia or Bianca, you are researching a version of the hotel that no longer exists.
That gives this page a very useful advantage right now: it can actually describe the hotel you are about to stay at.
Which room should you actually book?
Not primarily a sea-view hotel. What you are choosing between is how much outdoor space comes with the room. Rendering courtesy of Hotel La Palma, Capri
I would spend for outdoor space rather than automatically climbing the room ladder. The Deluxe Room is 28 square meters with a small balcony, while Prestige Terrace Rooms are 34 square meters with a proper terrace or loggia and can connect with one another. For most couples, that is where I would start looking.
For a honeymoon or anniversary, my favorite is the Junior Suite Prestige Terrace. The room itself is only 36 square meters, but the private terrace is 40 square meters. That is almost more outdoor space than indoor space, which feels like a much better use of Capri money than paying for twelve more square meters of carpet.
Families have surprisingly good options. The Junior Suite Prestige sleeps three and can connect to another, while the Junior Suite Prestige Loggia adds direct pool access and can also connect. The Prestige Suite can expand into a two-bedroom configuration for five or a three-bedroom setup for as many as nine. This is exactly why I would not just book two rooms online and hope for the best.
The beach club is fabulous. It is also somewhere else.
Mare by Casa Tua sits at Marina Piccola rather than below the hotel, and it is the only beach club on Capri open for dinner. Lunch and sunbeds are settled on site rather than charged to the room. Photograph courtesy of Hotel La Palma, Capri
Mare by Casa Tua is at Marina Piccola, not downstairs from the hotel. It has a pebble beach, easy swimming access, a restaurant and a lively social atmosphere, and hotel guests get preferential access, though outside visitors can book it too.
That distinction matters. A hotel with a beach club can sound like you wander downstairs in a robe. Here, you go across the island to Marina Piccola. Still fabulous, shoes required. One practical note: lunch and sunbeds at Mare are settled on site and cannot be charged back to the room.
Mare is also the only beach club on Capri open for dinner, which is genuinely worth planning around. Arriving by boat in the evening, when the day crowds have gone and the light has softened, is one of the better things you can do on this island.
For some clients I would plan a proper Mare day. For others, I would stay by La Palma’s pool, go shopping for an hour and return. Capri does not need to become a military operation.
Hotel La Palma vs. J.K. Place vs. Quisisana
These are three very different versions of Capri. Choose J.K. Place if you want a tiny seaside hideaway, big Bay of Naples views and wonderfully easy Marina Grande arrivals. Choose Grand Hotel Quisisana if you want classic, old-guard Capri, a larger resort footprint and significantly more facilities.
Choose La Palma if you want the Piazzetta outside your door, contemporary design, restaurants, shopping and nightlife without giving up a pool and beach-club day.
J.K. Place lets you decide when you would like Capri. Quisisana is classic Capri. La Palma assumes you came because you would very much like Capri.
And if wellness and Anacapri are the draw instead, that is Jumeirah Capri Palace, Anacapri.

One detail I would absolutely have handled before arrival
Capri arrivals are not difficult once someone else is dealing with them. Recent guests specifically praise La Palma for having staff waiting at Marina Grande and coordinating transportation and luggage straight to the hotel.
That is exactly the kind of detail I want sorted before a client steps off the ferry into a crowd with four suitcases. The glamorous part of Capri should begin after the luggage has disappeared.
Who I would book La Palma for
I particularly like La Palma for couples, girls’ trips, stylish families and repeat Capri visitors who want to be in the center of town.
I would choose somewhere else if your priorities are enormous sea views, total quiet or spending most of the trip inside a large resort. This is the social Capri hotel, which is either exactly what you want or very much not what you want.
Why book Hotel La Palma through an Oetker Pearl advisor?
I am an Oetker Pearl advisor, Oetker Hotels’ invitation-only preferred partner program. Eligible Pearl reservations can include benefits such as daily breakfast, hotel credit, upgrade priority and additional hotel recognition. Current partner references list a food-and-beverage credit that can increase on stays of two nights or longer, although I always confirm the exact current benefits for your dates and rate before booking.
The benefits are nice. The more important part is knowing what to ask. I can compare the actual room inventory, confirm the terrace or loggia configuration, ask about pool access, build the correct connecting setup for a family and communicate celebrations and preferences directly with the hotel.
I can also have your Capri arrival thought through before you step off the ferry, help with luggage and transfers, and coordinate Mare, Fuoco, boats and other reservations before everyone on the island decides they want the same lunch table. There is no additional planning or booking fee when you reserve Hotel La Palma through Sebastian Luxe Travel.
Planning a stay at Hotel La Palma?
Send me your dates, who is traveling and what matters most: Capri town, outdoor space, family rooms or beach-club days. I can compare the actual available rooms and Pearl benefits and tell you which one I would book.
Hotel La Palma FAQs
Is Hotel La Palma close to the Piazzetta?
Yes. The hotel is just steps from the Piazzetta and Via Camerelle, making its location one of the biggest reasons to stay here.
What is the best room at Hotel La Palma?
For most couples, I would start with a Prestige Terrace Room. For a honeymoon or anniversary, I particularly like the Junior Suite Prestige Terrace because its 40-square-meter terrace is larger than the room itself.
Does Hotel La Palma have a beach club?
Yes. Mare by Casa Tua is at Marina Piccola rather than at the hotel, with a pebble beach, dining and easy sea access. It is also the only beach club on Capri open for dinner. Lunch and sunbeds are paid on site rather than charged to the room.
Is Hotel La Palma good for families?
Yes. Several categories connect, and the Prestige Suite can create two- or three-bedroom configurations for larger families, sleeping up to nine in the largest setup.
Where can a family of 5 or 6 stay at Hotel La Palma?
The two-bedroom Prestige Suite configuration takes five, and the three-bedroom version goes further. Connecting Junior Suites are the other route. Because the connecting inventory is limited in a 50-room hotel, I would confirm the exact setup early.
What changed at Hotel La Palma in 2026?
Casa Tua now operates the hotel’s restaurants and nightlife, including Casa Tua Restaurant, Fuoco on the rooftop, The Club and Mare by Casa Tua at Marina Piccola. It is the Miami brand’s first Italian location.
How old is Hotel La Palma?
It is Capri’s oldest hotel, built in 1822 as the Locanda Pagano, and now part of Oetker Hotels with interiors by Francis Sultana.
Why book Hotel La Palma through an Oetker Pearl advisor?
Pearl bookings can add preferred benefits, but the larger advantage here is having someone confirm the right room, outdoor space and family configuration and communicate directly with the hotel before arrival. I can also coordinate Capri arrival logistics, beach-club plans, restaurants and celebrations. There is no additional booking fee when you reserve through Sebastian Luxe Travel.
Is Hotel La Palma worth it?
Yes, if being in Capri town is one of the reasons you are coming to Capri. If your fantasy is a quiet hotel with enormous sea views, I would probably choose J.K. Place instead.
