J.K. Place Capri is one of those hotels people who have stayed everywhere still love. One of my client families has traveled all over the world and stayed at some truly exceptional hotels, and this is one of their favorites.
It has only 22 rooms in a 19th-century villa above Marina Grande, interiors by Michele Bonan, a large pool overlooking the Bay of Naples and the atmosphere of a very chic private house where someone else is fortunately in charge of everything. Michelin gives it three Keys, its highest hotel distinction, and La Liste named it one of the ten best hotels in the world in 2025. I will admit the client endorsement interests me more.
The other reason I like it is surprisingly practical. You can arrive by boat, be at the hotel almost immediately and then use the complimentary shuttle to Capri town whenever you feel like joining the crowds. Capri requires a surprising amount of transportation for a very small island, and this hotel removes most of it.
Marina Grande is a feature, not a compromise

Near the ferry port does not normally sound like the beginning of a luxury-hotel recommendation, but Capri is different. J.K. Place sits above Marina Grande rather than in Capri town, so the port bustle is below you while the hotel feels tucked away behind gates and gardens. Complimentary shuttles run between the hotel, harbor and the main square from 7 a.m. until midnight.
For anyone combining Capri with Sorrento, Positano or the Amalfi Coast, this is incredibly useful. You get off the boat and your arrival is basically over, with no second act involving luggage, taxis and a narrow mountain road.
The tradeoff is that you cannot walk out of the hotel directly into the Piazzetta. If that is your priority, Hotel La Palma is the stronger choice. Personally, I quite like deciding when I am ready for Capri town rather than having Capri town decide for me.
Which room should you actually book?

The entry J.K. Classic is about 30 square meters and looks toward Monte Solaro rather than the sea. It is perfectly lovely, but at a hotel perched over the Bay of Naples I would want the savings to be meaningful before giving up that view.
For most couples, I would start with a Deluxe Room, around 28 to 38 square meters with a private balcony or terrace and full sea views. The Hideaway Superior is an interesting wildcard: smaller at about 27 square meters, but with a private teak patio, sea view and its own access from the main building. For the right couple that may feel more special than simply buying square footage.
Master and J.K. Master categories jump to roughly 45 to 55 square meters and take up to three. For a honeymoon or anniversary, I would look hardest at the J.K. Penthouse Room on the top floor, with a large furnished terrace and a full Bay of Naples view.
Two things worth knowing. Rooms within the same category vary in layout and orientation, so the actual assignment matters more than the category name. And there is some background noise from the road behind the property, which is exactly the sort of thing to raise when requesting a room rather than discover at midnight.
The Penthouse Suite is the family room to know
For a family of four, I would look at the Penthouse Suite before attempting to assemble several rooms in a 22-room hotel. It is 75 square meters with two double bedrooms, two bathrooms and two large furnished terraces overlooking the bay and Marina Grande.
It sleeps four and gives everyone actual separation rather than asking the children to spend a very expensive week on a sofa bed. There is one of them, so for school holidays I would secure it early.
The beach situation needs a small translation
J.K. Place has what the hotel accurately describes as private access to a public beach. That is different from having its own beach club. You can get down to the water easily, which is genuinely rare on Capri, but it is a rocky beach and there is no dedicated scene attached. If that matters, compare Hotel La Palma or Jumeirah Capri Palace.

At J.K. Place the pool is the star anyway, one of the larger hotel pools on the island, with the whole teak terrace looking across the Gulf toward Vesuvius. This is not a hotel where I would schedule six consecutive hours of sightseeing every day. Capri improves dramatically once the last hydrofoils leave and everyone remembers how to sit down.
How it compares on the island
Hotel La Palma puts you steps from the Piazzetta, with 50 rooms and its own beach club at Marina Piccola. It is much more plugged into the island’s social scene. Jumeirah Capri Palace is a different trip again, up in Anacapri with a serious medical spa, more resort infrastructure and Il Riccio near the Blue Grotto.
La Palma puts you in Capri. Capri Palace gives you Anacapri and wellness. J.K. Place lets you decide when you would like Capri. For a couple or a repeat visitor, I find that last one very appealing.

Who I would book J.K. Place Capri for
Couples, honeymoons, anniversaries, repeat Capri visitors and sophisticated families who prefer small hotels to sprawling resorts. It is also one of my favorite choices for clients combining Capri with the Amalfi Coast, because the Marina Grande location makes moving on and off the island exceptionally easy.
I would choose somewhere else if you want to step straight into the Piazzetta every morning, want a large private beach club or need extensive resort facilities for children. The whole point of J.K. Place is that it is small.
If Capri is a day trip rather than a stay, the easiest mainland base is Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria, Sorrento, which has a private lift down to the Sorrento hydrofoils.

Yes, for the right family. The two-bedroom Penthouse Suite sleeps four and is the configuration I would look at first. With only 22 rooms, useful family inventory is limited and worth booking early.
Is J.K. Place Capri open all year?
No. It is seasonal, generally closed from late autumn until around mid-April. I confirm the exact opening dates before planning a shoulder-season trip.
