From the outside, COMO Le Beauvallon looks like exactly what it is: a grand Belle Époque hotel that has been presiding over the Gulf of Saint-Tropez since 1914. Then you walk into the room and there is a transparent glass bathtub. Not quite what you were expecting.
COMO reopened this century-old Riviera landmark in April 2026 with just 42 rooms and suites, and rather than turning it into another reverential restoration full of antiques and tassels, the interiors are bright, modern and slightly playful. There are crisp white walls, contemporary art, huge windows and an almost surprising amount of glass. Condé Nast Traveler specifically calls out the glass bathtubs, while COMO’s Beauvallon Suites have open bathrooms with transparent tubs and double showers incorporated into the suite itself.
It is a fun contrast. Belle Époque outside, very 2026 inside. And then there is the other feature that may matter even more in August: an eight-minute boat to Saint-Tropez.

Some suites have a transparent bathtub open to the bedroom. That is wonderful for a couple and a genuine problem for two friends sharing.

Why I think COMO Le Beauvallon is interesting
Saint-Tropez has plenty of beautiful hotels. What it does not have in abundance is space. COMO Le Beauvallon sits on ten acres across the Gulf from town and has only 42 rooms and suites, so you get gardens, a proper pool, a beach club and enough room that the entire hotel does not seem to be sharing one sun lounger.
And yet you are not really sacrificing access to Saint-Tropez. The hotel’s complimentary boat runs directly from its private pontoon to the port in roughly eight minutes. In high summer, I consider this less of an amenity and more of an intervention. You can have lunch in town, shop for a few hours, get back on the boat and be beside your own pool before someone else has made it through the traffic circle.
It is also a genuinely different way to do this coast, which is worth understanding before you choose a base for a South of France trip.
The rooms are not what you expect
Worth knowing before you book a suite: the smaller Beauvallon Suites are open plan, with the tub and shower in the room itself. Charming for couples, awkward for anyone else.
This might be my favorite thing about the hotel. The building is more than a century old, but COMO did not make the interiors feel like a museum. The rooms are light and contemporary, with clean white walls, colorful art, lots of glass and modern sculptural details. Condé Nast Traveler describes the design as modern-eclectic Riviera and notes that the property’s collection includes more than 300 artworks.
And then there are the bathrooms. In some of the Beauvallon Suites, the bathroom is intentionally open to the suite, with a transparent glass bathtub and double shower. COMO itself lists the Beauvallon Suite as having an open bathroom within the suite, while the French version of the hotel site goes one step further and specifies the transparent glass tub. It is unexpected, and possibly not the room category I would book for two platonic friends. For a couple, much more fun.
It also gives the hotel a personality that I think is missing from many historic Riviera restorations. They kept the grand old building and then apparently decided the bathtub did not need walls. I respect the commitment.
Which room would I book?
For couples, I would look at the sea-facing suites. The Beauvallon Suite is around 50 to 55 square meters with a king bed, sitting area, sea views and that open bathroom with the bathtub and double shower, and it can connect to several other suite categories if you are traveling with family or friends. The Panoramic Beauvallon Suites sit on the top floor and have some of the hotel’s best views across the Gulf, which would be very tempting for a first stay. At the top is the nearly 200-square-meter COMO Suite, with a huge living area, sea views, Jacuzzi tub and double shower.
I would not necessarily book the biggest suite. At a hotel overlooking the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, view and terrace can easily beat another 30 square meters you barely use. For a honeymoon or a milestone anniversary, I would put the budget into the view.
The family suites are genuinely good
This is also one of the reasons COMO Le Beauvallon deserves a place on a luxury family travel site. The Two-Bedroom Suite gives a family of four two actual bedrooms, two bathrooms and a separate living room. Not “one bedroom plus a sofa that everyone agrees to call a second bedroom.” Actual bedrooms.
The larger Two-Bedroom Terrace Suite is about 103 square meters and adds a substantial outdoor terrace with garden and sea views. COMO lists it for four guests or two adults and two children, and that is the category I would look at first for a family doing four or five nights. Children have their space, parents have theirs, and nobody spends the entire vacation whispering after 8:30 PM.
There is also flexibility to connect certain suites for bigger families, which makes this much more interesting for a multigenerational trip than the initial room count might suggest.
Is it a kids-club hotel?
No, and I would not pretend it is. COMO has a children’s playroom and babysitting can be arranged, but the playroom is unsupervised. If your child wants six hours of organized activities and you would like to disappear to lunch, I would probably send you to Château de la Messardière instead.
COMO works better for families whose children are old enough to enjoy the pool, beach and Saint-Tropez itself, and I particularly like it for school-age children and teenagers. They get a proper room setup, there is plenty of space around the hotel, and taking a boat into Saint-Tropez is considerably more interesting than hearing their parents discuss Riviera traffic.
The boat is a major reason to stay here
This deserves repeating. COMO Le Beauvallon sits across the Gulf rather than directly in Saint-Tropez, and the hotel operates a complimentary private shuttle boat into the port. The crossing takes about eight minutes.
On a map, staying across the Gulf can look like a disadvantage. In July and August, I could make a very persuasive argument that it is the opposite. You get the gardens, beach and pool of a resort, then you get on a boat and arrive directly in Saint-Tropez. No parking, and no creeping toward town in traffic wondering whether you should have gone to Provence instead. This is one of those hotel details that sounds nice when you are planning and becomes absolutely brilliant once you are there.
It matters most in peak season, which is exactly when families traveling during school holidays are locked into these dates.
The beach and pool
Twenty-five metres, mosaic-tiled, in ten acres of gardens. The other pool is down at the beach club, which is a different afternoon entirely.
The 25-meter pool sits below the main hotel closer to the water, and Beauvallon Sur Mer gives you the beach-club portion of the Saint-Tropez experience without requiring another reservation somewhere else. That does not mean I would skip Pampelonne entirely. Part of going to Saint-Tropez is having at least one lunch where everyone arrives looking suspiciously well rested despite being out until 2 AM.
Beauvallon Sur Mer by Yannick Alléno, plus a private jetty. The complimentary COMO speedboat reaches Saint-Tropez in eight minutes, with a second boat running to Pampelonne.
But you do not need to organize a beach club every day. Some afternoons you should come back to the hotel, order something cold and remain horizontal.
And Yannick Alléno is doing the food
COMO handed the culinary direction to Yannick Alléno, including Beauvallon Sur Mer, his beach-club restaurant at the hotel. That makes the hotel particularly attractive if you care about food, but I also like it for the opposite reason: you do not have to go out every night simply because you are in Saint-Tropez.
There is a point in every Riviera trip when someone says, “Can we just eat here tonight?” At Le Beauvallon, that is a perfectly good plan.
COMO Le Beauvallon vs. Cheval Blanc St-Tropez
These would both appeal to a very high-end traveler, but the trips feel different. Cheval Blanc St-Tropez is intimate, incredibly polished and directly on the Saint-Tropez side of the Gulf, and I love it for couples, anniversaries and travelers who want the Cheval Blanc experience itself.
COMO gives you more room to breathe, more grounds, better two-bedroom options for families, a more contemporary interior aesthetic and, somewhat wonderfully, a commute to Saint-Tropez that is a boat ride.
For a couple celebrating something enormous, I might lean Cheval Blanc. For parents with two children who want a 103-square-meter two-bedroom suite and do not want to sit in traffic, COMO starts looking awfully clever. Read my full guide to Cheval Blanc St-Tropez.
COMO Le Beauvallon vs. Château de la Messardière
For families, this is probably the more useful comparison. Château de la Messardière is the bigger, more elaborate resort experience with a serious kids club and all the Airelles bells and whistles. COMO is smaller and cooler.
I would choose Messardière for younger children who will really use the children’s programming, and I would look hard at COMO for older children or teenagers, particularly if you care about modern rooms and a proper two-bedroom suite.
There is also something appealing about being able to switch between quiet resort and Saint-Tropez in eight minutes. A little serenity, a little chaos, then back to serenity. That is about the correct ratio.
Who I would book COMO Le Beauvallon for
Couples who like historic hotels but do not particularly want historic-looking bedrooms. Families of four who need a real two-bedroom setup. Parents traveling with older children or teenagers. Travelers who love Saint-Tropez but would rather visit the scene than sleep directly inside it. Design people who will absolutely photograph the glass bathtub. And anyone who hears “eight-minute boat transfer instead of driving into Saint-Tropez” and immediately understands why that matters.
Who might prefer somewhere else
If you want a supervised kids club, I would choose another hotel. If you want to walk from your room into the center of Saint-Tropez, stay on the other side of the Gulf. And if the thought of an open bathroom and transparent tub makes you wonder whether your marriage has quite reached that level of intimacy, choose your room category carefully. This is useful information.
Pairing Saint-Tropez with the rest of France
Very few clients fly to the South of France and stay in one place. Along the coast, Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat and Royal-Riviera are the two I pair it with most often, while Le Mas Candille and Château Saint-Martin & Spa are the inland options closer to Cannes and Vence.
For Provence proper, Airelles Gordes, La Bastide is my first suggestion, and for a few nights either side in the capital, the Paris Palace hotels are where I would start.
